British Expatriate wins the Second Edition of Champion of Champions Tournament
Local expatriate Mark Fearn was the winner in the men's event after two impressive scores under par. The Katameya Heights Golf Club member and British native was delighted to win the prize which included a trophy, three nights VIP stay in a presidential suite at the Hyatt Regency Taba Heights, a 177 Euro gift voucher from Vodafone Golf Series and a Cleveland Hi Bore XLS Driver.
Runner-up Dave Smith from the UK looked like he would end up taking the victory after his first round established a 3-point lead. However, Dave found things a little tougher on day two but still managed to produce some late excitement, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
Additionally, UK native Martin Lovelock made an impressive par on the difficult final hole to sit in third place ahead of Mohamed El Dakhakhny of the Alexandria SC. 2007 Champion Farid Issa of Katameya Heights finished in 5th after an excellent second round. Notable finishers included 13-year-old Brit Charlie Draper who won over many fans with his elegant golf and faultless style.
In the ladies event Denise Smith made sure Katameya Heights dominated both events winning by 3-points ahead of fellow club member Maha El Senoussi who finished second. Denise could hardly believe she had won after taking up golf only 18 months ago. Suzanne Davenport, also of Katameya Heights, finished third and Linda Formas of Mirage City claimed the fourth spot followed by fellow club member Sophie Bernard who rounded out the top five.
The weather seemed to be the biggest enemy of the ladies even though organizers allowed for the windy conditions by moving teeing areas forward on certain holes. Once again this event proved that the Taba Heights championship course is no easy feat for amateur golfers with only the top three men beating their handicaps.
Now in its second year, the Champion of Champions Golf Tournament is an opportunity for amateur golfers of all skill levels from around the region to come together on one of Egypt's finest courses.
The management and tournament organizers would like to extend a special thanks to all Taba Heights hotels for their hospitality, in particular official host hotel Hyatt Regency, as well as to event sponsors Vodafone Golf Series and Coca Cola, and official travel partners Excel Travel and Longwood Holidays.
